Sunmin Yoon is an Assistant Professor of Korean Studies and World Music/Ethnomusicology at the University of Delaware's College of Arts & Sciences, jointly appointed with the School of Music. She teaches Korean language and culture courses for the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures (DLLC) and ethnomusicology courses for the School of Music.
Education:
- PhD in Ethnomusicology, University of Maryland at College Park
Research Focus: Specializes in Mongolian urtyn duu (long-song) traditions and Korean cultural studies, examining sound-language-environment intersections. Explores K-pop's role in language pedagogy and its mental health impacts on global audiences.
Publications & Recognition:
- Co-editor of Mongolian Sound Worlds (U of Illinois Press, 2022)
- Recipient of SEM Ellen Koskoff Prize Honorable Mention (2023) and Klaus Wachsmann Prize (2024)
