Sungtak Hong is an Assistant Professor at Bocconi University since 2016, specializing in quantitative marketing with a focus on empirical analysis of decisions by manufacturers, retailers, and consumers. He holds a PhD in Marketing from London Business School, an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics, and a BA in Economics from Sogang University. Prior to academia, he worked in marketing roles at Unilever and Nielsen (KR), and as a research fellow at the International Growth Centre (UK).
His research integrates economic theories and econometric methods to address marketing challenges, such as product assortment strategies, quality competition, and policy impacts on markets. Notable projects include analyzing government interventions in product variety, competition in fast-food industry quality, and two-sided market dynamics like crowdfunding platforms. He leverages text analysis of online reviews to overcome data limitations.
Teaching includes courses on Pricing Analytics, Marketing Research, and Marketing Modelling, emphasizing real-world data analysis for students. His work has been featured in Journal of Marketing and recognized by the Marketing Science Institute's 2017 'Journal Selection.'
Current research explores public policy effects on alcoholic beverage markets and crisis impacts on platform economies. He collaborates with peers on interdisciplinary projects combining Bayesian methods, natural language processing, and machine learning.
