Sunghwan Byun is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of STEM Education at North Carolina State University. His research focuses on discourse, classroom interaction, and equitable teaching practices in mathematics, statistics, and data science education. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from Michigan State University (2021), an M.S. in Statistics (2020), and previous degrees from Oregon State University (M.S. 2008) and Kyungpook National University (B.S. 2007). Prior to academia, he was a National Board Certified high school mathematics teacher.
