Sunday Samuel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Accounting, Economics at Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, UK, and serves as Senior Programme Director for MA Accountancy and Finance programmes. He also leads postgraduate research (PGR) in Accountancy and has held roles like Deputy Lead of the Sustainable Development & Inclusive Living Challenge Space at Abertay University. His research focuses on Social/Environmental Accounting, Energy Transition, Taxation, and Sustainable Development in contexts like Ghana and Nigeria.
Samuel holds a fellowship from the Higher Education Academy and is a member of the Centre for Social and Economic Data Analytics (CSEDA). He has mentored staff and students, with external examiner roles at Canterbury Christ Church University and Teesside University. His work addresses challenges in African businesses, banking regulation, and economic resilience in emerging economies.
Recent research emphasizes energy transition impacts on African businesses, compliance with anti-money laundering policies, and family values in SME financing. His articles span 2010–2025, analyzing topics like GDP-financial performance linkages in Nigerian insurance, post-COVID sectoral recovery, and tax reforms in African states. He actively engages in public talks on tax systems, insurance impacts, and graduate employability.
Led initiatives in sustainability and inclusivity, Samuel’s work aligns with UN SDGs focusing on economic growth, climate action, and responsible consumption. His interdisciplinary approach bridges accounting practices with broader socio-economic development goals.
