Dr. Xihui Chen is an Associate Professor in Accounting and Finance at Keele Business School (KBS), University of Keele. She joined in March 2024 after roles as an Assistant Professor at Heriot-Watt University and Senior Lecturer at Teesside International Business School. Her research focuses on climate governance, environmental policy, sustainable finance, and green innovation. She is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Economics in Katowice (Poland) and the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam).
Dr. Chen holds a Ph.D. in corporate governance from Nottingham Trent University. She serves as an external examiner for several UK institutions, including the University of Northampton and University of Suffolk. Notably, she was the first Chinese international student president of all UK Students’ Unions, advocating for inclusivity in academia.
Her research has been published in top journals like Journal of Environmental Management, Energy Economics, and Risk Analysis, with a focus on climate policy, green finance, and ESG frameworks. She is an Editor of Journal of Environmental Management and a guest editor for European Financial Management.
Teaching includes modules on finance, taxation, and public sector accounting at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She mentors PhD students in accounting and finance, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to sustainability challenges.
Grants include a £17,900 award from Keele's Q&R Policy Support Fund for climate policy engagement and a £6,000 grant for community energy transition projects. Her work bridges academia and policy, addressing geopolitical risks, green bond markets, and cryptocurrency energy impacts.
