Dr. Sunay Akkaya is an Associate Professor at Adiyaman University's Faculty of Education, Department of Turkish and Social Sciences Education. He holds a PhD in Turkish Folklore from Gazi University (2016), following a Master's (2010) and undergraduate degree (2005) in Turkish Language and Literature. His academic career began as a Lecturer (2011–2016) before promotion to Assistant Professor (2016–2024) and Associate Professor (2024). He served as Director of the Research and Application Center (2018–2019) and previously worked as a museum researcher (2007–2009).
Research focuses on cultural studies through interdisciplinary lenses: neuro-culture intersections, urban cultural branding (e.g., Evliya Çelebi's travelogue analysis), UNESCO heritage policies, folk narratives, and cultural tourism. Key works include studying Evliya Çelebi's urban imagery, neurocultural behavior patterns in traditional characters, and children's cultural tourism. He has authored/co-authored 8 books on folklore, cultural heritage, and language pedagogy, edited academic journals, and published in venues like National Folklore Magazine and International Journal of Language Academy.
Teaching includes courses on Turkish folklore, oral culture, narrative education, and cultural heritage management. His recent projects explore living cultural heritage museums, strategic games in Adıyaman, and foreign language learners' cultural perceptions. Academic contributions span editorships, conference presentations, and collaborative research with institutions like Pegem Academy and Asos Publications.
