Dr Sumeetra Ramakrishnan is an Associate Professor at the University of Surrey's Surrey Hospitality and Tourism Management department. Her research focuses on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in hospitality and tourism sectors, particularly addressing gender and ethnicity influences in low-paid worker perceptions and migrant rights. She also explores inclusive education strategies aligned with industry transformation. Dr Ramakrishnan leads the EventRights project, funded by the EU RISE program, investigating migrant worker challenges in mega-sporting events like the Japan Open Badminton Tournament. She currently supervises PhD candidate Shaher Molook on hospitality industry skill shortages and career choice influences.
Her teaching expertise spans hospitality operations, HRM, organizational behavior, and future workforce trends. She contributes to interdisciplinary research centers including the Centre for Competitiveness of the Visitor Economy and Gender, Entrepreneurship and Social Policy Institute (GESPI).
