Sukhvir Wright is a Clinical Research Career Development Fellow at Aston University, affiliated with the Pharmacology & Translational Neuroscience Research Group (PTNRG) and the Aston Institute of Health & Neurodevelopment. She holds an honorary consultant position at Birmingham Children's Hospital. Her research focuses on neuro-immunological diseases in children, including autoimmune encephalitis, epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis. She employs electrophysiological techniques in rodent models to study autoantibody pathophysiology and evaluates advanced neuroimaging like MEG to predict clinical outcomes.
Education: PhD in Autoimmune epilepsies and encephalopathies of childhood (University of Oxford, 2015), MBBS (Royal Free and University College Medical School, 2001), BSc in Physiology and Pharmacology (UCL, 1998).
- Research Projects:
- "The immune system and epilepsy" (Epilepsy Research UK)
- "Study of Neuronal Antibodies in Paediatric Epilepsy" (Wellcome Trust)
- "Predictors of cognitive recovery in paediatric immune-mediated encephalitis" (Encephalitis Society)
- Teaching: NE3001 Brain Disorders and Disease, IPP7 Independent Prescribing (Cranial Nerves).
Her work bridges clinical practice and research, leading specialized NHS services for pediatric MS and advancing neurophysiological tools. Collaborations include studies on MEG in MOG-Ab disease and epilepsy priorities in the UK.
Grants and Projects: Multiple funded initiatives from institutions like Epilepsy Research UK, Wellcome Trust, and Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital Research Foundation. Supervised 2 doctoral works.
