معرفی
Professor Gavin L Woodhall is a Professor at Aston University, affiliated with the Pharmacology & Translational Neuroscience Research Group (PTNRG) within the College of Health and Life Sciences. His work focuses on epilepsy, neuroimmunology, and cannabinoid therapies, with a particular emphasis on neuronal network dynamics in epilepsy and schizophrenia. He holds external examiner roles at multiple UK universities and has contributed to over 60 peer-reviewed publications.
Education: PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Southampton (1994). Postdoctoral training at Universities of Southampton, Montreal (Canada), and Bristol (1991–2002).
Research Interests: Electrophysiological studies of entorhinal cortex and hippocampus; glutamate/GABA receptor roles in epilepsy; autoimmune epilepsies; cannabinoid treatments (GW Pharma collaboration); Parkinson’s disease motor cortex involvement. He investigates synaptic scaling, receptor expression changes, and pathological network dysfunction in neurological disorders.
Teaching: Course Director for BSc Neuroscience at Aston, leading modules on pharmacology, epilepsy, and neurosciences. Courses include practical neuroscience training and specialized topics like psychosis and neuronal networks.
Collaborations: Active in rodent models of autoimmune epilepsy, cannabinoid mechanisms, and clinical trials like ECHECKED (end-stage kidney disease cognition study). His work bridges basic science and clinical applications, emphasizing translational research.
Labs/Teams: Leads the PTNRG, collaborating with groups on neuropharmacology, electrophysiology, and neuroimmunology. His research integrates in vitro models, rodent studies, and human clinical trials to advance epilepsy treatment paradigms.
