Suellen Semekoski

Suellen Semekoski is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Art Therapy Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). She holds a BS from the University of Pittsburgh (1978) and an MA from Vermont College of Norwich University (1985). Concurrently, she maintains a private practice as a Registered/Board Certified Art Therapist and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.

Her research interests focus on the intersection of art therapy, mindfulness, and nonviolence. She has published in journals such as Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association and Journal of Feminist Family Therapy, and produced the videography Healing Art: A Portrait of a Women's Open Art Studio.

Teaching highlights include courses like Creative Process as Art Therapy, exploring self-awareness through art and writing, and The Art of Nonviolence, examining nonviolent movements through artistic inquiry. She supervises fieldwork for MA Art Therapy students, emphasizing clinical skills and professional practice.
