Kelly Moore Spencer

Dr. Kelly Moore Spencer is an Assistant Professor at Mars Hill University, serving in the Department of Art Therapy and Psychology. She coordinates both the Art Therapy Program and Women’s and Gender Studies Program. Holding a PhD in Counseling and Counselor Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, an MS in Art Therapy from Florida State University (2006), and a BS in Education from the University of Georgia (2004), she joined MHU in 2016 after clinical practice as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor and Board Certified Registered Art Therapist.

Her research explores the psychological impacts of stigma on intersecting marginalized identities and examines art-based methods for individual/collective healing. Teaching responsibilities include:
