Valerie Valentine serves as a Lecturer in Art Therapy at Southwestern College and Naropa University. She is a licensed Professional Art Therapist (LPAT) and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). Her career focuses on trauma resolution, conflict mediation, and multicultural awareness through art therapy, particularly working with young women from regions of geopolitical conflict. Currently, she leads art therapy groups at Life Healing Center and practices at Mesa Vista Wellness, emphasizing creative self-expression as a therapeutic tool. She also chairs the New Mexico Art Therapy Association, advocating for expanded community engagement in art therapy.
Valerie earned her Master’s in Art Therapy/Counseling from Southwestern College (2005). She holds certifications including ATR (Registered Art Therapist), Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), and LPCC licensure from New Mexico.
Her professional journey includes founding clinical frameworks for Creativity for Peace, an organization fostering dialogue among youth from Israel/Palestine via art, and teaching art therapy courses across institutions. She prioritizes self-care in her practice, reflecting her educational grounding in holistic approaches.
