Sue Mesa is a Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy at York St John University, affiliated with the School of Science, Technology and Health. She graduated from Lancaster University in 1999 with an Occupational Therapy degree and has over 20 years’ experience in clinical practice specializing in learning disabilities and autism. She maintains clinical engagement through mentoring and supervising practitioners in learning disability services.
Her research focuses on autism and inclusive education, particularly the school experiences of autistic adolescents. Current projects include the AIMSS PhD project co-producing inclusive interventions for secondary schools with autistic youth. She also co-facilitates the York Autism Community of Practice.
Mesa is an HCPC-registered occupational therapist, BAOt member, and HEA fellow. She reviews for journals like Advances in Autism and collaborates internationally as an AMPS trainer. Her work emphasizes participatory methods and policy-relevant outcomes in neurodiversity research.
