Professor Sue Green is the Head of the Department of Nursing Science at Bournemouth University, where she leads research and academic initiatives in clinical nutrition and nursing practice. A Registered Nurse with extensive experience in acute and continuing care environments, she previously held academic positions at Leeds, Kingston, Hull, and Southampton Universities before joining Bournemouth in 2018. She maintains active clinical engagement, including a secondment as a Nutrition Nurse at Solent NHS Trust until 2022.
Her research focuses on nutritional care interventions across diverse populations, including older adults, homeless individuals, and patients with chronic conditions. Key areas include malnutrition risk screening, enteral tube management, digital health tools for dietary self-care, and participatory health research methodologies. She emphasizes co-production of technological solutions to address health inequities.
Professor Green welcomes PhD students and has supervised research on topics ranging from geriatric nutrition to health service accessibility. Her work has secured grants including:
- Burdett Trust-funded project supporting rough sleepers' self-care (2020)
- NIHR Programme Grant for STREAM malnutrition initiative (2017–present)
- HEE/NIHR study on enteral tube feeding home management (2014)
