Dr. Sudip Bajpeyi is a Professor of Kinesiology and Director of the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences PhD program at the University of Texas at El Paso. He leads the Metabolic Nutrition and Exercise Research (MiNER) Laboratory, which investigates molecular mechanisms underlying metabolic diseases like obesity and type 2 diabetes, as well as the effects of diet, exercise, and neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES). His work emphasizes improving glycemic control and understanding lipid metabolism in skeletal muscle.
Dr. Bajpeyi's research interests include insulin resistance, the role of exercise and electrical stimulation in metabolic health, and pandemic-related health impacts, particularly among Hispanic populations. His lab explores how interventions like NMES can mitigate diabetes risk and improve cardiovascular health.
Notable contributions include studies on NMES-induced improvements in glycemic control and energy expenditure, as well as investigations into the relationship between glucose metabolism and cardiovascular health in diverse populations. His work has been highlighted in UTEP news for its implications in diabetes management and pandemic health outcomes.
Dr. Bajpeyi directs the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences PhD program, fostering collaborative research. He has secured grants through ProQuest/Pivot and leads a team at the MiNER Lab, focusing on translational research to address metabolic disorders and public health challenges.
