Dr. Rachel Livingstone is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow, affiliated with the School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health and the Institute of Cardiovascular & Medical Sciences within the College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences. Her research focuses on diabetes pathophysiology, metabolic disorders, and cardiovascular health, with particular emphasis on insulin signaling pathways, glucose transport mechanisms, and clinical management of diabetes complications. She has contributed to studies on GLP-1 agonists' cardiovascular benefits, metformin's role in Type 1 diabetes, and glycemic control strategies in hospitalized patients.
Key research areas include cellular trafficking of GLUT4 proteins, adipocyte function, and SNARE protein dynamics in insulin-stimulated processes. Her work integrates biochemical, clinical, and pharmacological approaches to address diabetes-related challenges. Recent publications emphasize obesity-related metabolic changes and the impact of blood glucose fluctuations on long-term outcomes in Type 1 diabetes.
Dr. Livingstone has also engaged in quality improvement initiatives, such as implementing 'hypo boxes' to standardize hypoglycemia management on hospital wards. Her interdisciplinary collaborations span basic science and clinical practice, reflecting a commitment to translational research in metabolic health.
