Associate Professor Sudarshini Ramanathan is an Associate Professor of Neuroimmunology at the University of Sydney's Sydney Medical School, within the Faculty of Medicine and Health. She is also a Staff Specialist Neurologist at Concord Hospital and heads the Translational Neuroimmunology Group at the Kids Neuroscience Centre. Her research focuses on neuroimmunological disorders, particularly antibody-mediated conditions like MOGAD, neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders, and autoimmune encephalitis. She leads a translational research program aiming to improve diagnosis and therapeutic approaches in neuroimmunology through precision medicine.
Ramanathan completed her NHMRC-funded PhD at the University of Sydney and holds an NHMRC Investigator Grant. She has established collaborations with institutions globally, including the University of Oxford and Mayo Clinic. Her awards include the NSW Premier’s Early Career Researcher of the Year (2022) and the SOAR Prize (2023).
Her research team includes PhD and Master’s students, focusing on clinical and basic science projects. Key collaborations include the Australasian MOGAD Study Group and international trials in autoimmune encephalitis. She supervises a team exploring therapeutic efficacy, biomarkers, and pathogenic mechanisms in neuroimmunological disorders.
