Subhashree Nath is a Research Associate and doctoral candidate at the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER) since October 2023. Previously, they served as a Doctoral fellow at the Dresden Leibniz Graduate School (a joint initiative of IOER and TU Dresden) from March 2021 to September 2023, and as a Student Scientific Research Assistant at the Department of Urban and Environmental Sociology, UFZ Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research in Leipzig, Germany from October 2019 to August 2020.
Nath holds an MSc in Integrated Urban Development & Design from Bauhaus University, Weimar (Germany), completed between October 2010 and May 2015, and a B.Arch. from GGSIP University, New Delhi (India). Prior to their academic career, they worked as an Architect at ABL Architects and PPAL Architects in Delhi, India for approximately four years (two years at each firm) from October 2018 to September 2020.
Dr. Nath's research focuses on community-driven climate change adaptation, leveraging information communication technology and decolonial theories to foster just and equitable climate adaptation. Their work examines power dynamics and socio-cultural underpinnings for effective slum upgradation and climate adaptation, with expertise in methodologies like Fuzzy Cognitive Mapping. They have made significant contributions to understanding how structured decision-making can enhance community-based adaptation efforts, particularly in urban informal settlements.
As an Editorial Board Member of plaNext Journal since July 2024 and former Section B Spokesperson of the Leibniz PhD Network Steering Committee (October 2022-October 2023), Nath actively contributes to academic discourse. They have received a 3-year scholarship from the Dresden Leibniz Graduate School for conducting PhD research and are involved in the Klimakonform joint project ReglKlim, focusing on climate-conform action at community and district level in mountainous regions, specifically Subproject 5 on object type based modelling and regional economic assessment of climate adaptation potentials.
