معرفی
Stu Thompson is a Professor at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University, with academic appointments in the Department of Medicine (Infectious Disease), Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and the Department of Oral Biology and Diagnostic Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of North Carolina (1992) and a BS in Microbiology from Purdue University (1982).
Research Interests
- Bacterial pathogenesis and genetics
- Molecular mechanisms of Campylobacter jejuni and Helicobacter pylori infections
- Biofilm formation and regulation
- Flagellar motility and sensory transduction
Selected Publications Trends
His recent publications focus on Campylobacter jejuni, emphasizing gene regulation (e.g., cydB and CbrR genes), flagellar motility, biofilm formation, and cyclic-di-GMP signaling. These studies span molecular biology, bacterial genetics, and infectious disease mechanisms.
Scientific Awards
- Outstanding Young Faculty Award in Basic Science (Medical College of Georgia Faculty Senate, 2001)
- Young Investigator Award (10th International Workshop on Campylobacter, Helicobacter, and Related Organisms, 1999)
Advising and Service
Dr. Thompson has served on advisory committees for Ph.D. students (Nicole Lopez, Linah Shahoumi, Mohamed Meghil, Ranya Elsayed) and Master’s student Mitul Patel. He participates in institutional service as Chairperson of the Institutional Biosafety Committee (2017–2027), reviewer for NIH and DoD programs, and Associate Editor for Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology.
