Sto Len is a visiting faculty member at Bennington College for Spring 2025. A genre-fluid artist based in Queens, NY, with familial roots in Vietnam and Virginia, his work centers on embedded collaborations with environmentally abused landscapes, multi-species communities, and municipal agencies like the NY Department of Sanitation.
His research spans Environmental Art, Social Practice, and Community Engagement through cross-disciplinary projects: printmaking with polluted waterways, establishing a Trash Museum on a Kyrgyzstan landfill, creating a New Mexico desert pirate radio station, and organizing international guerrilla performances at Superfund sites. These works integrate historical, environmental, and political narratives from his Vietnamese and Virginian heritage.
Notable awards include:
- NYFA Fellowship for Interdisciplinary Work
- The Map Fund
- NY City Artist Corps Grant
- Connecticut Sea Grant
Len has held residencies at the NY Department of Sanitation, Queens Botanical Garden, and AlexRenew Wastewater Treatment Facility. His practice emphasizes direct ecological engagement, transforming municipal infrastructure and contaminated sites into platforms for public dialogue and artistic intervention.
