Nathaniel Parke serves as Cello Instructor and Instrumental Coordinator at Bennington College since 2007, with additional faculty appointments at Williams College (Artist Associate in Cello) and the Chamber Music Conference and Composer’s Forum of the East. He holds principal cello positions with the Berkshire Symphony and Berkshire Opera Orchestra, and performs as a member of the Bennington String Quartet and Boston Composers String Quartet.
Parke received his musical training at the Longy School of Music under George Neikrug, studied in London with William Pleeth, and earned an MFA from Bennington College with Maxine Neuman. His performance career spans period instrument ensembles to contemporary premieres, including recordings of Ileana Perez-Velasquez’s solo cello works on Albany Records and new compositions by Boston composers on the MMC label.
His expertise centers on Cello Performance and Chamber Music, with significant contributions to Contemporary Classical Music through premieres of new works and Historical Performance Practice via period instrument collaborations. His freelance activities across Albany and Boston regions demonstrate exceptional versatility in both Baroque and modern repertoires.
Parke maintains a private studio of cello students and has provided chamber music coaching at Longy School of Music and Skidmore College. His performance engagements include solo appearances with the Wellesley, Berkshire, and Sage City Symphonies, utilizing a 1721 C.G. Testore cello.
