Steven Wilson

Steven Wilson is Professor of French Studies and Medical Humanities at Queen's University Belfast's School of Arts, English and Languages, where he serves as Subject Lead for French Studies. Appointed in 2013, he previously taught at Manchester, Exeter, and Leicester universities. His research bridges French literary studies and critical medical humanities, examining healthcare crises through cultural narratives.

Research interests focus on:

• French literature's engagement with health, illness, and end-of-life experiences
• Cultural representations of medical practice and patient experiences
• Intersections of medicine with gender, race, post-colonialism, and environmental humanities
• Multilingual perspectives in global healthcare communication

Publications consistently explore disease representation, pain narratives, and pandemic responses, with recent work analyzing COVID-19's cultural dimensions through graphic novels and multilingual frameworks. This reflects sustained interdisciplinary engagement across literature, medicine, and cultural studies.
