Dr Steve Trotter is a Lecturer and Director of Learning and Teaching at the Hull University Business School, part of the University of Hull's Faculty of Business, Law and Politics. He has held this role since 2017 and has been with the University since 1986. Previously, he served as a temporary lecturer at the University of Liverpool. His primary responsibilities extend beyond teaching to include undergraduate programme leadership and quality assurance, with involvement in interdisciplinary initiatives across the university and other institutions in economics.
His research focuses on public sector economics, regulated industries, transport economics, and applied microeconomics. He has supervised numerous PhD students, including notable works on public utility regulation, PPP contracts in transportation, and property tax systems in Tanzania. His academic contributions span journal articles analyzing deprivation indices and spatial policy, as well as theses addressing economic development in sub-Saharan Africa and GCC energy markets.
Dr Trotter has advised on major economic impact assessments, such as Siemens' investment in the Humber Region. His work emphasizes practical applications of economic theory to policy design and regulatory frameworks. He is affiliated with the Accounting, Finance and Economics group and contributes to the Logistics and Management Systems research theme.
