Steve Lorteau is a Part-Time Professor at the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section of the University of Ottawa, where he teaches Environmental Law, Municipal Law, and Property Law. He holds an SJD candidacy at the University of Toronto (since 2021), an LLM in Environmental Law from the University of Toronto (2021), and a Juris Doctor (JD) and Civil Law Licence (LL.L.) from the University of Ottawa (2019, 2018). His research explores climate change impacts on legal institutions, eco-anxiety policy, and municipal zoning. He co-authored op-eds for The Conversation Canada and advised NGOs and politicians on climate law. He also specializes in wine law with certifications from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust and serves as Canadian reporter for Jus Vini.
Research interests include climate policy, environmental justice, public and private law, and administrative law. Funded by SSHRC fellowships, his work appears in Energy Policy, Review of European, Comparative & International Environmental Law, and the McGill Journal of Sustainable Development Law.

He previously served as a law clerk at the Federal Court and was called to the bar of Ontario. His current projects address climate change activism and municipal legal frameworks.
