Neil Craik

Neil Craik is a Professor at the University of Waterloo, holding appointments in the Balsillie School of International Affairs and the School of Environment, Enterprise and Development. His research focuses on international and Canadian environmental law, particularly climate and geoengineering governance, deep seabed mining regulation, and environmental impact assessment. He has authored/co-authored influential works such as *Global Environmental Change and Innovation in International Law* (2018) and *The International Law of Environmental Impact Assessment* (2008). Craik holds degrees from McGill (BA), Dalhousie (LLB), Edinburgh (LLM), and Toronto (SJD), and has led projects funded by SSHRC and CIGI. His work emphasizes legal frameworks for global commons governance, including the atmospheric commons and deep seabed resources. He has advised on policy integration for climate initiatives and serves as a Senior Fellow at CIGI. Current research explores equity in carbon removal obligations and liability regimes for environmental harm in transnational contexts.
