James Harrison is a Professor of Environmental Law at the School of Law, University of Edinburgh. He holds a PhD, LLM, and LLB from the University of Edinburgh, University of East Anglia. His research focuses on international environmental law, law of the sea, and the role of international organizations in legal development. He teaches specialized courses on international law of the sea and marine environmental governance.

Recent Trends in Articles: Focus on Brexit legal implications, UK-EU fisheries disputes, and implementation of the BBNJ Agreement. Recent work addresses seabed mining regulation, marine protected areas, and climate change litigation strategies.

- Co-Investigator: Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity in Areas beyond National Jurisdiction (2023–2024)
Labs/Teams: Active in interdisciplinary research teams at the Edinburgh Centre for International and Global Law and the Global Justice Academy.
