Steve Lomber is a Professor in the Department of Physiology at McGill University and holds the Canada Research Chair in Brain Plasticity and Development. His research focuses on neuroplasticity, particularly how the brain adapts to sensory deprivation and restoration, with emphasis on auditory and visual systems. He uses integrative approaches including functional MRI, electrophysiology, and behavioral testing.
Education: B.Sc. in Neuroscience from the University of Rochester and Ph.D. in Anatomy and Neurobiology from Boston University School of Medicine.
Research interests include understanding cortical reorganization in deafness, the impact of cochlear implants on auditory cortex function, and cross-modal plasticity. His work explores how sensory deprivation during development affects brain organization and how interventions like cochlear implants can restore function.
