Steve Kennedy

Dr. Steve Kennedy is an Associate Professor researching business sustainability at Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he has been faculty since 2012. He serves as Scientific Director of the Centre for Eco-Transformation and was Academic Director of the MSc Global Business & Sustainability program from 2015-2021. His institutional affiliations include the Organizations & Natural Environment division of the Academy of Management, the Group for Research on Organizations and the Natural Environment (GRONEN), and the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) network.

Dr. Kennedy's research focuses on how systems and resilience thinking can help organizations innovate to tackle grand societal challenges such as climate change and biodiversity loss. His work also encompasses sustainability accounting and reporting, circular economy business models, and responsible management education. His research has been published in top-tier journals including Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Management, Strategic Organization, and Business Strategy & the Environment.

His recent publications show a clear trend toward practical applications of sustainability research, with increasing focus on biodiversity impact measurement, circular economy resilience, and systems approaches to sustainability management. The research spans business strategy, organizational theory, and environmental management, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to sustainability challenges.

Dr. Kennedy teaches across multiple educational levels from Executive Education to Bachelor's programs, with specialized MSc courses in Climate Change Strategy Role-Play and Business Sustainability & Social-Ecological Systems. His teaching approach includes collaborative international projects where students from eight business schools across Europe participate in Model United Nations role plays.

He maintains active engagement with industry through partnerships with leading sustainability-focused firms, service on the UK Green Building Council (2023-2026), and executive education roles with the Erasmus Center for Innovation Management and the Erasmus Centre for Energy Transition. His additional activities include volunteering with social enterprises and teaching business sustainability through the 2030 HUB Caribbean foundation.
