Steve Kennedy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Business-Society Management at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. He conducts research on business sustainability, focusing on systems and resilience thinking to address grand societal challenges such as climate change and biodiversity loss. He is the Scientific Director of the Centre for Eco-Transformation and actively contributes to academic and educational initiatives in sustainability.
His research interests include:

His recent research explores how organizations can innovate using systems approaches to bridge sustainability disconnects and measure biodiversity impacts. Articles highlight a strong trend toward integrating ecological resilience with corporate strategy, particularly in addressing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). His work frequently appears in leading journals such as Journal of Management, Strategic Organization, and Business Strategy and the Environment.
Dr. Kennedy has held leadership roles including former Academic Director of the MSc Global Business & Sustainability (2015–2021) and is an active member of the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) and the Organizations & Natural Environment (ONE) division of the Academy of Management. He teaches courses such as Climate Change Strategy Role-Play and Business Sustainability & Social-Ecological Systems across executive, bachelor’s, and master’s levels.
He supervises student research and contributes to public engagement through media appearances and online courses promoting sustainable business practices. He is involved in collaborative research networks such as GRONEN and has contributed to policy-relevant outputs, including public-facing courses on SDG implementation and sustainable landscape restoration.
Dr. Kennedy leads the Centre for Eco-Transformation, a research hub focused on accelerating systemic change toward ecological sustainability in business. His work emphasizes cross-sector collaboration, transformative education, and the development of practical frameworks for corporate sustainability innovation.
