Marc Baaij

Marc Baaij is an Associate Professor of Strategic Management at Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University Rotterdam. He holds a PhD in Evolutionary Strategic Management from Nyenrode Business University (1996). His academic roles include Coordinator of Training and Supervision of External PhD Candidates at RSM, and prior positions as Academic Director of part-time Master programs in Bedrijfskunde and Management Consultancy. He advises companies on strategy development and execution through a side position.

Research focuses on strategic management, international business, and corporate headquarters relocation. Key areas include strategic renewal in long-lived firms, global organizational dynamics, and the impact of management consulting. He has published in journals like Long Range Planning and Journal of International Business Studies, and co-authored books on strategy and consultancy.

His work examines corporate HQ relocations, strategic decision-making in multinational firms, and sustained superior performance. Notable contributions include studies on US corporate inversions and telecom operators' strategic renewal. He collaborates with institutions like ERIM (Erasmus Research Institute of Management) and the Port of Rotterdam Authority on applied strategic research.

Teaching spans MBA, BSc, and executive education programs in strategic management. His supervision includes PhD candidates Zenlin Kwee (2004-2009) and Ruud Kuijpers (2020-2024). He has been affiliated with Erasmus University since 2004.
