Vareska van de Vrande

Professor Vareska van de Vrande holds the Chair of Collaborative Innovation and Business Venturing at Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University Rotterdam. She joined RSM in 2007 after completing her PhD in Industrial Engineering and Management Science at Eindhoven University of Technology. Her research focuses on corporate venturing, collaborative innovation, strategic alliances, and entrepreneurial ecosystems. She is a Fellow of the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM).

Her research interests span corporate-startup collaboration, intellectual capital in R&D, and open innovation governance. Notable contributions include work on balancing technology-sourcing portfolios and managing innovation in public and military sectors. She has authored over 30 articles in top journals like Strategic Management Journal and Research Policy.

Prof. van de Vrande co-founded the Corporate Venturing & Entrepreneurship Community and was Academic Lead of Erasmus Enterprise. She currently serves on the board of Venture Café Rotterdam. Her work bridges academia and practice, emphasizing real-world applications of innovation strategies.

Her articles highlight themes like strategic innovation governance, pharmaceutical R&D discontinuation, and paradoxical processes in top management teams. Her research consistently addresses the interplay between corporate structures and external innovation ecosystems.
