Steven Hutkins is an Associate Professor at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study, New York University. He holds a Ph.D. in English Renaissance literature from NYU (1986), an M.A. in English from NYU (1977), and a B.A. in English from the University of Wisconsin, Madison (1975). His teaching and research focus on place studies, travel literature, and interdisciplinary English studies.
His courses include A Sense of Place, Travel Narratives, Travel Fictions, and The Travel Habit, exploring themes like human-environment interactions and literary journeys. He also teaches Greek and Renaissance literature, postmodern fiction, and prose style.
Dr. Hutkins was honored with the 1998 NYU Distinguished Teaching Award, recognizing his dedication to education. His work emphasizes innovative pedagogy, including online courses for students abroad and collaborative interdisciplinary approaches at Gallatin School.
