معرفی
Steve Guzman, Ph.D., is a Research Fellow in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan. His work focuses on neuromuscular physiology, aging-related muscle degeneration, and regenerative mechanisms in skeletal muscle systems. He holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering.
Research Interests: Dr. Guzman investigates the interplay between oxidative stress, Schwann cell dynamics, and neuromuscular junction stability. His studies explore molecular mediators of age-related muscle atrophy, fibrosis resolution pathways, and the role of vitamin A in mitochondrial function. His work integrates spatial transcriptomics, in vitro models, and animal studies to uncover novel therapeutic targets for neuromuscular diseases.
Key Research Themes:
- Neuromuscular junction remodeling
- Schwarz cell proliferation regulation
- Cyclic AMP signaling in fibroblasts
- Senescent cell clearance strategies
- Mitochondrial dysfunction in aging muscles
Publications Overview: Recent work emphasizes skeletal muscle innervation dynamics, fibrosis resolution mechanisms, and vitamin A's role in stem cell aging. His 2025 studies highlight groundbreaking findings in cyclic AMP signaling pathways and muscle-resident Schwann cell behavior.
Advising & Grants: Currently mentoring no formal advisees. Active in securing grants for regenerative medicine research through NIH and NSF channels.
Labs & Teams: Collaborates with the University of Michigan's Muscle Biology Lab and Neuroengineering Group, focusing on translational applications of neuromuscular research.
