Steve Goodhew is Professor of Environmental Building and Discipline Leader at University of Plymouth. His research develops sustainable building solutions, notably the €4m CobBauge project creating regulatory-compliant earth walls.
Research pillars include:
- Natural materials and low-carbon construction
- Thermal imaging for building defect detection
- Living walls for energy efficiency
- Moisture management in buildings
- AI applications in building performance
Goodhew's DeViz project uses thermography to identify construction defects, while CobBauge develops ultra-low carbon alternatives to concrete. His research shows living walls reduce heat loss by over 30%, contributing to net-zero commitments.
He leads knowledge exchange through the Low Carbon Devon project and has served on the Northampton Housing Partnership. Goodhew authored 'Sustainable Construction Processes' and received the 2019 RegioStars Award for CobBauge.
