Dr. Jiping Bai is an Associate Professor (Research and Development) at the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science, University of South Wales. His research focuses on sustainable materials and structural systems, particularly in low-carbon concrete technology, computational optimization, and structural health monitoring using machine learning. He leads international collaborations and has pioneered work on recycled aggregates, fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP), and waste material utilization in construction.
Dr. Bai holds a PhD and MEng in Structural Engineering, an MSc in Computer Science, and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). His professional roles include editorial board memberships for journals and conferences, emphasizing knowledge dissemination and innovation.
Key research interests include:
- Concrete durability and mix design
- AI-driven structural defect detection
- Recycled construction materials
- FRP composites for structural applications
- Thermal performance of building components
Notable projects include AI-based structural health monitoring systems, low-carbon cement development from industrial waste, and optimizing recycled aggregates for construction. He has contributed to over 150 publications and pioneered methods for assessing concrete properties via machine learning and thermal imaging.
