Meini Su

Dr. Meini Su is a Senior Lecturer in Structural Engineering and Head of Research at the Department of Civil Engineering and Management at the University of Manchester. She leads the 'Living and Infrastructures' theme at the Thomas Ashton Institute for Risk and Regulatory Research. Previously, she served as an Assistant Professor at Shenzhen University and holds a PhD from Imperial College London and the University of Hong Kong (2014). Her research focuses on structural testing, numerical modeling, and design guidance for FRP-strengthened RC structures, aluminum alloy structures, and graphene-modified materials. She has pioneered methods like the Continuous Strength Method (CSM) for aluminum alloys and ICCP-SS dual-functional interventions for corrosion protection.

Dr. Su is a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers and Institution of Structural Engineers. She edits technical specifications for electrochemical durability and the FIB Model Code 2020. She chairs the ICE Manchester Branch and Concrete Society's Northwest Committee. Her research spans low-carbon concrete, FRP recycling, and fire safety, with notable projects funded by the Royal Society, Innovate UK, and the National Science Foundation of China.

Her work contributes to UN SDGs 9 (Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure) and 13 (Climate Action). She advises on PhD projects in graphene-enhanced materials and aluminum alloy connections. Current research includes graphene-modified cement, recycled carbon fiber composites, and fire-resistant structures. Her team includes postdocs and PhD students exploring topics like 3D-printed sandwich plates and alkali-activated concrete.

Award highlights include the AJF Gold Medal (2018), Best Paper Award (2011), and second place in the Graphene Enterprise Award (2020). Key grants include £1.03M for waste incineration and carbon capture innovation, and £240K for graphene-enhanced low-carbon cement. Her educational contributions include pioneering digital tools in engineering education and mentoring through the ICE Academic Mentorship program.
