Stephen Yelderman is a Professor of Law at the University of Notre Dame's Notre Dame Law School, located in Eck Hall of Law. He specializes in intellectual property law, antitrust, and remedies, with notable expertise in blockchain regulation, patent policy, and copyright law. Prior to academia, he served as Associate General Counsel at Coinbase, Trial Attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division, and Patent Agent in Silicon Valley. He clerked for Justice Neil M. Gorsuch on both the Tenth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. Yelderman holds a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and graduated with High Honors from the University of Chicago Law School.
His research focuses on improving patent quality, navigating antitrust-IP intersections, and analyzing legal remedies in high-tech contexts. His work critiques judicial approaches to copyright law and proposes reforms to align patent systems with competitive markets. Recent scholarship includes exploring damages frameworks, prior art evaluation mechanisms, and the implications of patent challenges on innovation.
Yelderman teaches courses such as Copyright Law, Remedies, and Blockchain Regulation. His publications span major law reviews, including the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology and the University of Chicago Law Review. He has contributed amicus briefs to high-profile cases like WesternGeco LLC v. ION Geophysical Corp. (2018).
