Stephen Priest is a Senior Research Fellow in Philosophy at Blackfriars Hall, University of Oxford. He is affiliated with the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Oxford and holds memberships at Wolfson College, Oxford and Hughes Hall, Cambridge.
His research spans epistemology, philosophy of mind, phenomenology, and continental philosophy. He has authored influential works on British empiricism, theories of the mind, and Jean-Paul Sartre, with publications translated into multiple languages including Spanish, Russian, and Japanese.
His publications cover broad philosophical disciplines, including epistemology, metaphysics, and cognitive science, with specific subfields like empiricism, philosophy of mind, and existentialism. He has contributed to key debates in philosophical anthropology and phenomenology.
Stephen Priest lectures internationally and has edited foundational texts such as Hegel's Critique of Kant and Jean-Paul Sartre: Basic Writings, alongside co-editing A Dictionary of Philosophy.
