Prof. Dr. Dina Emundts is a Professor of History of Philosophy at the Institute of Philosophy, Department of Philosophy and Humanities, Freie Universität Berlin since the winter semester 2016/17. She serves as President of the International Hegel Association and is a member of several editorial committees including the European Journal of Philosophy and the British Journal of the History of Philosophy.
Her research focuses on systematic areas of Metaphysics, Philosophy of Mind, and Epistemology, with historical expertise in Kant, German Idealism (particularly Hegel), Phenomenology (especially Merleau-Ponty and Heidegger), and Early Modern Philosophy (Vico, Berkeley). Her work explores the intersections between historical philosophical systems and contemporary philosophical questions, with particular attention to concepts of self-consciousness, recognition, and the everyday.
Professor Emundts' publications reveal a consistent engagement with German Idealism, particularly examining Kant and Hegel's theories of knowledge, self-consciousness, and metaphysics. Her recent work shows increasing interest in the philosophy of everyday life and the relationship between philosophy, religion, and science. She has edited numerous volumes of the International Yearbook of German Idealism and organizes major international conferences on Hegelian philosophy.
She actively supervises doctoral students and leads research projects, including interdisciplinary collaborations on topics such as time, forgiveness, and the philosophy of emotions. Professor Emundts maintains a robust teaching schedule with courses on theoretical philosophy, German Idealism, and specialized seminars on Kant, Hegel, and phenomenology.
