Professor Stephen McDonnell is an academic orthopaedic surgeon in the Department of Surgery at the University of Cambridge and Honorary Consultant Knee Surgeon at Addenbrookes. His research focuses on knee injuries, early knee osteoarthritis (OA), and personalized treatments via novel imaging techniques like the Cambridge Knee Injury Toolkit (CamKIT).
He trained at University College London (UCL) and specialized in trauma/orthopaedics through Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre (Oxford) and Melbourne Orthopaedic Group (Australia). A global collaborator with Blantyre, Malawi through Cambridge Global Health Partnerships, he transitioned surgical teaching to virtual platforms during the pandemic and leads the Cambridge Surgical Forum.
