Stephen Kennedy is an Assistant Professor of Sacred Music at the Eastman School of Music (University of Rochester) and Director of Music/Organist at Christ Church Rochester. He founded the Christ Church Schola Cantorum in 1997, specializing in Plainsong, Renaissance/romantic motets, contemporary music, and improvisation. The ensemble has been featured in international festivals, radio broadcasts, and collaborations with groups like Boston Early Music Festival Chamber Ensemble.
Kennedy performs organ recitals (including improvisation-focused programs), composes works performed internationally, and creates interdisciplinary projects such as aleatoric silent film accompaniments. He has conducted workshops on chant and improvisation across the U.S. and abroad, and recently developed dance-accompanied scores like "Luma Voce" for Rochester City Ballet.
