Ethan Pound serves as a Trombone Student Teacher at the Eastman Community Music School (ECMS) of the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester. He concurrently holds roles as Director of Sackbuts for Christ Church’s Schola Cantorum and Department Assistant to the Eastman Trombone Choir, while also functioning as Teaching Assistant for Eastman’s Trombone Methods class.
His educational foundation includes a Bachelor of Music from Oberlin Conservatory, with ongoing graduate studies pursuing a Master of Music and Performer’s Certificate at Eastman School of Music.
Pound demonstrates exceptional versatility across trombone performance genres including jazz, contemporary classical, and world music. His artistic profile integrates composition, arranging, and pedagogy, evidenced by collaborations with Sean Jones, Edmar Castañeda, and Camilla Meza. Performance highlights span the Bang on a Can Long Play Festival, United Nations Gala, and U.S. Department of Education Jazz Informance.
His teaching trajectory includes prior brass instruction roles at Northern Ohio Youth Orchestras, Right Direction Project, and Peabody Innovation and Music Academy, now centered at ECMS where he delivers trombone instruction and supports ensemble development.
Pound maintains active performance commitments including recent solo features with Eastman Jazz Lab Band and upcoming performances of Henri Tomasi’s Concerto for Trombone with Mostly Modern Orchestra, while contributing to ensembles like Eastman Trombone Choir and Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble.
