معرفی
Professor Stephen Garrett is Executive Dean and Pro-Vice-Chancellor at Aston University's College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, where he also leads the School of Engineering and Applied Science. He joined Aston in 2022 after a long academic and leadership career at the University of Leicester.
- PhD in Fluid Dynamics, University of Cambridge
- MSc in Theoretical Physics & Applied Mathematics, University of Birmingham
- PG Dip in Actuarial Science, Institute and Faculty of Actuaries
Stephen's research lies at the intersection of applied mathematics and engineering, focusing on fluid dynamics, particularly boundary layer stability and transition in rotating systems. His work combines theoretical modeling with computational simulations to solve real-world engineering problems. He has authored two educational books in actuarial science, reflecting interdisciplinary engagement.
His recent publications show a consistent focus on boundary layer phenomena across rotating geometries such as disks, cones, and spheres, using advanced computational methods like large eddy simulation and stability analysis. These works contribute to aerospace, mechanical, and environmental engineering applications.
Stephen has held visiting positions at Macquarie University and the University of Sydney, and is currently an Honorary Visiting Professor at the University of Leicester. He played a key role in launching Aston University’s London campus as Pro-Vice-Chancellor London.
He is actively involved in academic leadership, emphasizing the integration of teaching and research. He advocates for supportive environments for academic staff development. He leads the Aston Fluids Group, fostering collaborative research in fluid mechanics.
