Professor Stephen Buescher is a faculty member in the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of California, San Diego, where he contributes to the Acting program with a focus on physical theater and movement training. He holds the academic rank of Professor and teaches within the MFA and BA programs.
His research and artistic practice center on physical theater, actor training, and ensemble-based performance. With a strong foundation in movement and international performance traditions, his work bridges pedagogy and professional practice. He has led movement curriculum development at leading conservatory programs including Brown/Trinity Rep, Yale School of Drama, and American Conservatory Theater.
Professor Buescher is a recipient of the TCG New Generations Grant, a recognition of innovative contributions to American theater. He is also a member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC) and the Network of Ensemble Theaters.
He has directed and choreographed extensively in professional and academic settings, including productions such as The Bacchae Communion Rite, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and A Christmas Carol. His performance career includes national and international engagements with companies like Dell’Arte International, National Theater of Greece, and Tanz Theater Heidelberg. He has performed at festivals in Croatia, Hungary, and Colombia, reflecting a strong transnational artistic presence.
His educational background includes training at the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theater and the California Institute of the Arts.
