Stephen (Steve) Begg is a former Head of School and Professor of Petroleum Engineering & Management at the University of Adelaide. He holds a B.Sc. and Ph.D. in Geophysics from the University of Reading, England, with additional executive training at MIT and the University of Texas. His research focuses on decision-making under uncertainty, economic evaluations, and psychological factors influencing expert judgments.

Prof. Begg is actively involved with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Institute for Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS), and the Society of Decision Professionals (SDP Board Member). He has authored a book on Decision Analysis commissioned by SPE and delivered keynote lectures globally.
He has supervised 5 PhD/Master’s students, focusing on topics like reservoir uncertainty, portfolio optimization, and decision analysis methodologies. His professional activities include chairing SPE forums and delivering industry workshops for companies like ExxonMobil, BP, and BHP.
Prof. Begg maintains affiliations with the Australian School of Petroleum and contributes to advancing decision science through academic-industry collaborations.
