Stephen Ashford is an Honorary Reader at the Cicely Saunders Institute of Palliative Care, Policy & Rehabilitation, King's College London, and a Clinical Lecturer (2013–2017). He is a practising consultant physiotherapist specializing in neurorehabilitation and spasticity management. His research focuses on developing outcome measures like the Arm Activity (ArmA) and Leg Activity measures, now used globally. He leads the international ULIS program, spanning 31 countries.
Education: BSc (Salford University, 1993), MSc Neurorehabilitation (Brunel University London, 1998), PhD (King's College London, 2012).
Research interests include spasticity, stroke rehabilitation, and guideline development (e.g., Royal College of Physicians, NICE-endorsed splinting guidelines). Awards include the Fellowship of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Neurology (2013) and NIHR CLAHRC Fellowship.
Key contributions: Developed tools like the Leg Therapy Recording Schedule and Goal Attainment Scale Legs. Collaborates internationally and edited major spasticity management guidelines. Active in clinical trials and outcome evaluation.
