Dr. Stephanie Yiallourou is a Senior Research Fellow at Monash University’s Turner Institute for Brain & Mental Health. She specializes in sleep research, with a focus on perinatal/infant sleep, cardiovascular health, and dementia. Her career includes roles as Group Leader at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute (2017–2021) and NHMRC project leader at the Hudson Institute (2009–2016).
Education & Training: Trained at the Ritchie Centre, Hudson Institute for Medical Research. Holds expertise in sleep-cardiovascular interactions and neurodegenerative diseases.
Research Interests: Explores the nexus between sleep dysfunction and dementia, particularly in adult populations. Key areas include sleep regularity’s impact on dementia risk, hypertension’s role in Alzheimer’s, and cardiovascular health in First Nations Australians. She leads international consortia like the Sleep and Dementia Consortium (NIA-funded) and co-leads the Monash BACH study for dementia prevention.
Awards: Notable recognitions include the Gender Equity Award ($300k, 2018–19), Alzheimer’s Association Grant ($227k, 2023–2025), and 14 international awards including 3 New Investigator awards.
