Associate Professor Bradley Edwards leads the Sleep Disorders Research Program at Monash University, focusing on understanding sleep apnea pathogenesis and developing personalized treatments. He holds positions at the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute and Victorian Heart Institute. Edwards completed his PhD in respiratory physiology at Monash University (2009) and postdoctoral studies at Harvard Medical School, where he co-developed phenotyping techniques for OSA. He has been awarded multiple fellowships, including the Heart Foundation Future Leader Fellowship (2016). His research emphasizes obesity-related sleep disorders, novel therapies, and clinical predictive tools. Current projects include testing combination pharmacotherapies and oral device efficacy. Edwards collaborates internationally with institutions like Harvard and UC San Diego, and his lab is funded by NHMRC, Heart Foundation, and industry partners like Apnimed.
- Education: PhD in Respiratory Physiology (Monash University, 2009)
- Affiliations: Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute, Victorian Heart Institute, Monash Health (Honorary Fellow)
Research Interests: Edwards investigates mechanisms underlying OSA, particularly obesity’s role, and develops personalized treatments. His key areas include phenotyping OSA endotypes, pharmacological interventions, and improving CPAP adherence through device innovation. He also explores sleep disorders in children with genetic conditions like Prader-Willi syndrome.
Grants & Awards: Over 28 projects funded by NHMRC, Heart Foundation, and industry. Awards include the Anne Elizabeth Suratt Young Investigator Award (2013) and CJ Martin Fellowship (2012).
Labs/Teams: Edwards Lab at Monash’s BASE Facility focuses on translational research, collaborating with clinical partners like Monash Health and Alfred Health. Partnerships with companies like Apnimed and Rhinomed drive drug and device development.
