Stephanie Tobin is an Assistant Professor in Biology at Trent University, specializing in stem cell physiology, muscle pathologies, and aging mechanisms. She holds a B.Sc. from Western University and a Ph.D. from York University. Her research focuses on how bone marrow stem cell aging influences muscle inflammation/repair, using transcriptomics and in vivo models. Key areas include mitochondrial tRNA modification (TRIT1 enzyme), cytokinin roles in muscle wasting, and sex differences in cardiac cachexia.
Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses in biology. She leads the Tobin Lab, which has secured grants including NSERC Research Tools & Instrument Grant (2025), Trent University Theall Grant (2023), and collaborations with Emery and Frost Labs. Recent awards include the 2025 Early Career Researcher Award.
Lab members have published on topics like cardiac cachexia sex differences (AJP 2022), cytokinin dynamics (2023), and Daphnia aging models (2024). Current projects include biomaterial applications for muscle repair and mitochondrial dysfunction studies in Coxpd35 disease.
