Stephanie Tailby serves as Professor of Employment Relations in the Business & Management Department of the Faculty of Business & Law at the University of the West of England and co-directs the Centre for Employment Studies Research (CESR). Formerly Head of the HRM Subject Group (1996-2002), she remains active in the British Universities Industrial Relations Association (BUIRA) as President (2004-2007) and organizer of its Public Sector Studies Group.
Her academic credentials include:
- BA in Politics from the University of Exeter
- MA in International Relations from the University of Sussex
- PhD from the University of Warwick
Her research critically examines employment restructuring, non-standard work arrangements, and public service (particularly NHS) transformation while advancing worker representation frameworks. Current investigations span self-employment dynamics in creative sectors, social enterprise models in community health, integrated care systems, and agricultural labor deregulation in England.
Professional recognition includes:

She teaches core employment relations and strategic HRM modules for the MA program while leading CESR's research agenda. Her funded projects include a British Academy study on the Indian origins of the UK cotton industry (2010-11). As CESR co-director, she oversees collaborative initiatives examining contemporary labor challenges across health, agriculture, and creative industries.
